Multidimensional and statistical nature of gas-liquid two-phase flow

Gas-liquid two-phase flow in a pipe takes various flow patterns including bubbly flow, slug flow, churn flow and annular flow; also, intermediate flow patterns are frequently encountered. Since the transfers of mass, momentum and energy between the phases are dependent significantly on the flow pattern, sufficient understanding of flow pattern transition is of considerable importance in the numerical simulation of two-phase flow. Experimental studies are hence being carried out to elucidate the multidimensional and statistical nature of gas-liquid two-phase flow and to develop a reliable method for flow regime identification.
